British Sign Language Support Worker

Location: Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne

Our client has an exciting opportunity to appoint a British Sign Language (BSL) Support Worker to join their team. This location is a small residential home in Jesmond providing a safe, secure, positive and structured environment which supports individuals’ specific and complex needs.

 

The Role

The successful candidate will be qualified in BSL level 1, 2 or 3, however they are also currently offering this opportunity to experienced support workers who are ready to take that next step in to a new challenge willing to complete this qualification alongside the role. As part of the team you will be supporting our clients residents with hearing impairments with their ongoing development and daily living. Ensuring their residents needs are met by following support plans and providing individuals with practical and emotional care enabling further independence and achieving positive outcomes.

Residents communicate through BSL, VOCA’s, word boards, print symbols and pictures. Successful candidates will encourage and promote effective communication for all our residents.

You will encourage and support their residents to carry out all daily household tasks such as shopping, cooking tidying and washing. Successful candidates will support with administration of medications and some personal care tasks. There are also times when their residents will need support with managing behaviours of concern. Where there are training needs identified these will be provided.

Residents are encouraged to be part of the community and staff support them to access social events and activities such as the local pub, deaf community groups, bowling and swimming to name but a few.
